PRE-SCHOOL ART EXPLORATION - 123201

Children and caregivers share the experience of creative exploration in a studio setting, while facilitating toddlers' socialization. Emphasis is on process, rather than the completion of a defined project. Families may enter and leave any time during the hour as children's attention spans will vary. This is a parent-child activity; caregivers must please enroll, attend and actively participate. When registering: sections 1 - 3 are for children; section 4 is for caregivers.

Friends & Family Art Workshop: WOOL FELTING ONTO SWEATERS - 133204

Do you have sweaters with holes in them? Add love to your well-loved sweaters. Students should bring in an old sweater to mend and artify with needle-felted wool. Wool sweaters preferred, but not necessary. All felting supplies will be provided. All ages welcome. No experience needed. Children ages 9 and under must be accompanied by a registered participating adult.

DROP IN MAKERS & ARTISTS - 133207

This is an unstructured open art studio for kids and their adults. Participants are invited to use general art supplies for independent art-making (crayons, markers, paper, play dough) or do a focused art activity provided by arts staff. Focused activities range from printmaking to papier mache to polymer clay and will change on a weekly basis. Students ages 4-7 must have an adult stay with them and actively participate. Students ages 8-12 may bring an adult or attend on their own. Participants may arrive or depart at any time during the scheduled studio time. Participants may choose drop in days for the session at time of registration and pay per visit (section 1) or may pay one fee to attend any days during the session (section 2).

PARENT'S NIGHT OUT - 133222

An evening of fun for the kids, while you have the night to yourself! Participants will enjoy art activities, and a pizza dinner. Drop off and pick-up anytime you wish during the three-hour session. Dinner will be served at 6:15. All children must be potty-trained in order to participate, and they must have no cold or flu-like symptoms on the day of the program. Household credits or refunds will be issued if advance notice is given (by 4pm) that a child isn't feeling well.

STOP MOTION ANIMATION STORYTELLING

STOP MOTION ANIMATION STORYTELLING - 137602

Tell your own story with stop motion animation! The class will begin with a recorded discussion of memories, dreams, and recollections which will be the basis of your project. Students will craft jointed-puppets out of paper, as well as backgrounds and props to enhance their story. As the class progresses, you'll learn to use the "Stop Motion Studio" app to record some stop-motion animation, and finish off your project with some simple editing. Greenbelt Access Television (GATe) will provide all necessary equipment and materials. This class includes a GATe membership for the WINTER session.

EMBROIDERY WORKSHOP - 143205

The Stitchery makes time for creative needlework among friendly faces. Learn practical and decorative stitching skills and put them to use with a monthly project (instructor designed kits sold separately) or work on your own project with guidance from the instructor. Winter projects include a cute embroidered tea towel, a felt coin purse, and a multilayered mandala. Early enrollment is encouraged to give the instructor time to make a kit just for you! Class will have access to general sewing tools such as needles, scissors, and sewing machines. Students can customize their projects by providing their own supplies of embroidery floss, decorations, etc. Students who wish to receive the January kit on 1/13 should register and pay by 12/30. Later registrations will receive the kit on 1/20.

STAINED GLASS WORKSHOP - 153213

Participants will make a small stained-glass window hanging using the copper foil technique. The goal is to learn to cut, foil, and solder stained glass pieces into a finished product. Particular emphasis will be placed on developing and practicing the skills needed to score and break glass, as this is a challenging skill. Beginners will focus on straight line cuts and work from patterns such as snowflakes, stars and Mondrian squares. If this is your second workshop there will be patterns with curved lines, such as flowers, birds and seasonal designs to construct.
